the pump.

6.2.1. Cooling the motor

In order to ensure adequate motor cooling, the water must flow
around the motor at a minimum speed of 0.08 m/s and at a water
temperature of 20° C. In the case of the following applications,
the pump also has to be fitted with a cooling shroud in order to
guarantee a sufficiently high flow speed:
The borehole obtains its water from a higher level water vein.
The borehole diameter is significantly larger than the pump diameter
The pump is installed horizontally in a basin or a container
A wellhead with cover should be fitted so that the borehole is
protected against environmental influences. This also makes it
easier to install the pump.

6.3 Installing the pump set

6.3.1 Securing rope

Irrespective of the pump size and borehole diameter, a securing
rope which is connected to the wellhead should be fastened to
the pump as safety measure.
The pump should always be fastened to the well
CAUTION
head using a stainless steel securing rope so that the
pump can be pulled out of the borehole in the event
of a pipe bursting. Do NOT use the cable to
raise/lower the pump set.

6.3.2 Installation depth

Make sure that the pump is installed at least one metre – prefe-
rably three metres – above the bottom of the borehole. Attention
must be paid that the pump is located above the filter section
(screen) and at least 1 metre beneath the lowered water level.
Pumping above the water level leads to considerable
CAUTION
damage to the pump and/or the motor and is not
covered by the warranty. We recommend the
installation of a dry-run protector which turns the
pump off if the borehole is not delivering any more

water. Our technical service department would be
happy to advise you on the various possibilities
available in this respect.
Warning
Before lowering the pump, please check that there
are no sharp edges protruding from the wellhead
which could possibly cause damage to the pump or
the underwater cable.

6.3.3 Non-return valve

All 4WN borehole pump sets are fitted with a non-return valve so
that no further non-return valves are required as long as the pump
is not being installed at depths of more than 80 m.

7. Electrical installation

Warning
Make sure without fail that you disconnect the power
supply before commencing any work on the pump
set. Ensure that no-one can switch the power supply
back on again inadvertently before completion of any
such work.
Warning
The motor may only be put into operation by trained
qualified personnel. Electrical connections must be
carried out by a qualified electrician taking into
account local safety regulations.
Specifications on the motor's rating plate such as output, power
supply and maximum rated current etc., as well as the following
safety regulations, must be observed when carrying out electrical
installation.
Every 4 WN borehole pump set is fitted with a ready-to-install
2-wire motor with integrated capacitor and thermal circuit
breaker. If the thermal circuit breaker is triggered, remove
the cause of the fault. The power supply has to be interrupted
for at least one minute before restarting (remove the earthed
safety plug from the socket). The safety plug is fitted with an
integrated earthing cable in according with IEC 364-5-54 and
EN 60034-1 and may only be connected to a power con-
nection which is earthed in accordance with regulations.
