must not be fitted to the surfaces
marked as these are where the air‐
bags inflate in the event of a crash.
When the airbag system is activated
all of the doors are unlocked while the
interior/exterior lighting and the haz‐
ard warning lights are illuminated at
the same time.
Airbag control indicator v
There is an airbag control indicator on
the instrument panel cluster, which
shows the airbag symbol. The system
checks the airbag electrical system
for malfunctions. The light tells you if
there is an electrical problem. Airbag

9 Warning
If the airbag indicator light stays on
after you start your vehicle, it
means the airbag system may not
be working properly.
The airbags in your vehicle could
fail to inflate in a collision or they
could even inflate without a colli‐
sion.
To help prevent injury to yourself
or others, have your vehicle serv‐
iced right away if the airbag indi‐
cator light stays on after you start
your vehicle.
What Will You See After an
Airbag Inflates?
After an airbag inflates, it quickly de‐
flates, so quickly that some people
may not even realize the airbag infla‐
ted. Some components of the airbag
module - the steering wheel hub for
the driver's frontal airbag, the instru‐
ment panel for the right front pas‐
senger's frontal airbag or the ceiling
of your vehicle near the side windows
- will be hot for a short time. The parts
of the bag that come into contact with
you may be warm, but not too hot to
touch. There will be some smoke and
dust coming from the vents in the de‐
flated airbags. Airbag inflation does
not prevent the driver from seeing or
being able to steer the vehicle, nor
does it stop people from leaving the
vehicle.
