Recommended fluids and
lubricants
Only use products that have been
tested and approved. Damage result‐
ing from the use of non-approved ma‐
terials will not be covered by the war‐
ranty.
9 Warning
Operating materials are hazard‐
ous and could be poisonous. Han‐
dle with care. Pay attention to in‐
formation given on the containers.
Engine oil
Engine oil is identified by its quality
and its viscosity. Quality is more im‐
portant than viscosity when selecting
which engine oil to use. The oil quality
ensures engine cleanliness, wear
protection and oil aging control,
whereas viscosity grade gives infor‐
mation on the oil's thickness over
a temperature range.
Engine oil quality
Synthetic oil meeting standard
GM4718M.
This vehicle's engine requires a spe‐
cial oil meeting GM4718M. Oils meet‐
ing this standard may be identified as
synthetic. However, not all synthetic
oils will meet this standard. Use only
an oil that meets standard GM4718M.
American Petroleum Institute (API)
starburst symbol:
Oils meeting these requirements
should have the starburst symbol on
the container. This symbol indicates
that the oil has been certified by the
American Petroleum Institute (API).
This vehicle's engine was filled at the
factory with a synthetic 5W-30 oil
meeting the GM4718M specifica‐
tions.
Topping up engine oil
Engine oils of different manufacturers
and brands can be mixed as long as
they comply with the required engine
oil quality and viscosity.
Use of engine oil not meeting the re‐
quired specifications can cause long-
term engine damage under certain
operating conditions.
Additional engine oil additives
The use of additional engine oil addi‐
tives could cause damage and inva‐
lidate the warranty.
Engine oil viscosity grades
Use only engine oil viscosity grades
SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40, 0W-30 or
0W-40.
