Battery replacement of remote
control
Replace the battery as soon as the
range reduces. A necessary battery
change is indicated as vehicle mes‐
sage in the Driver Information Center
(DIC) 3 115.
Caution
When replacing the battery, do not
touch any of the circuitry on the
transmitter. Static from your body
could damage the transmitter.
1. Press the button on the remote
control and extract the key blade
from the housing.
2. Open the unit by using the key
blade to separate the two halves
of the remote control housing.
3. Replace the battery (battery type
CR2032), paying attention to the
installation position (positive side
facing down). Do not use a metal
object.
4. Snap the halves of the housing
back together to close the unit.
Synchronize the unit after battery
change.
Batteries do not belong in household
waste. They must be disposed of at
an appropriate recycling collection
point.
Synchronization of remote
control
After replacing the battery, unlock the
door with the mechanical key in the
driver's door lock. The remote control
will be synchronized when you switch
on the ignition.
Keys, doors and windows
Fault
If the central locking system does not
operate, it may be due to the follow‐
ing:
■ Fault in remote control 3 19
■ Range exceeded
■ Battery voltage too low
■ Frequent, repeated operation of the
remote control while not in range,
which will require re-synchroniza‐
tion
■ Overload of the central locking sys‐
tem by operating at frequent inter‐
vals, or if the power supply is inter‐
rupted for a short time
■ Interference from higher-power ra‐
dio waves from other sources
■ Passive entry: remote control out of
reception range, change the posi‐
tion of the remote control

Replacement remote control
unit
The remote control unit number is
specified on a detachable tag.
