OTARY DIAL TELEPHONE SUPPORT
Calls from a rotary (pulse) telephone, or in some cases from overseas, are unable
to dial any digits during the auto-attendant, since voice mail can only respond to
DTMF (Dial Tone Multi Frequency) dialed digits. This feature allows the caller to
automatically be transferred to the operator (extension 10 by default) if no DTMF
digits are received, as opposed to being disconnected after the main greeting for
no DTMF digit(s) dialed. Disconnecting the caller if there is no DTMF digit(s)
detected will prevent callers who hang up during the main greeting from ever
ringing through to the operator (extension 10), causing false ringing at the
operator station. If your telephone company does not provide positive disconnect
signal or your telephone lines are part of a building's PBX (Public Branch
Exchange) system that is slow in sending positive disconnect, disconnecting the
caller will help you avoid tying up your telephone lines for a period of time longer
than necessary.
