Place the Ace of Clubs in the reader field of view. You should see the Result History quickly
updating and the beeper sounding at a fairly quick rate. Also take note of the decode times. In the
Image Panel controls there is a hotkey (Fig. 82) to enable and disable the image transfer to
the reader. Click this hotkey to disable image transfer. Notice the increase in the rate at which the
results are updating and the increase in frequency of the beeper sounding. This is directly related to
the amount of time it takes to transfer images to the software and demonstrates how fast the reader
can actually read codes. When images were being transferred you could hear individual beeps but
when image transfer is disabled it becomes much more difficult to hear the individual beeps.
Remove the card from the field of view.

Now open the Symbology Settings dialog and disable DataMatrix codes. Enable image transfers
and once again put the card in the field of view. Notice the difference in decode times; it should
become much more consistent. You can again disable the image transfer and note the increase in
read speed.
Click on the down arrow of the System Settings hotkey to expose the Decode Settings hotkey (Fig.
83) and click it; this will open the Decode Settings Dialog (Fig. 84 on next page). Check the box
Never Read Same Code Twice. Now place the Ace of Clubs in the field of view. Is the code
read? Place the Ace of Spades in the field of view. Is the code read? How many times? Remove it
from the field of view and then place it back in the field of view. Is the code read now?
