On the Read Setups menu in the group named Starting Setup (see Fig. 42 on previous page) you
can choose which setup will be used first to attempt to read the code. Alternately you can choose to
use the Last Successful Decode. In a given application this would be set according to how parts are
presented to the system. If one setup works for a majority of the codes to be read and only
occasionally a different setup is needed then you may want to start with the most commonly used
setup and if the code is not read then the other setup or setups will automatically be used. If codes
come through in batches, where one setup is used for a number of codes and another setup is used
for the next batch of codes, then you might choose to use the last successful decode. This setting is
use to help reduce overall cycle time of reading a code. For now leave this set to Setup 0.
Place the Two of Diamonds about two to three inches from the front of the reader and trigger the
reader; most likely the image will be completely saturated. On the Quick Setup pane click on the
Live mode button so that the brightness is automatically adjusted until you see the code,
then unclick the button. You may see something like the image below (Fig. 45). Notice that the
code can not be read.

Return to the Read Setups pane and change the Starting Setup to Setup 1. Switch to the Quick
Setup pane and click the Tune button to tune to this setup. Note that the Train Code After
Tuning is still unchecked in the Tune menu. The code should now be read; trigger the reader
to confirm this. Place the Ace of Hearts on the table top and again trigger the reader to confirm it
can also read this code. Return to the Read Setups pane and change the Starting Setup to Setup 0.
Now regardless of which code is placed in the field of view it will be read using one of the read
setups. To confirm which setup is being used to read a code you will use Data Formatting to display
which setup was used to read a code.
On the Settings menu click on the Data Formatting hotkey (Fig. 46 on following page).
