The only changeable property for Code 128 is code length (Fig. 31). The default is for any code
length to be read. Uncheck the Any selection and enter a value of "8" for the minimum length and
"9" for the maximum length (use the slider controls or enter values into the boxes on the right side).
These settings will allow codes whose length is between eight and nine characters long to be read;
all others will not be read.

Trigger the reader again and confirm that the Ace of Hearts can still be read. Place the Ace of
Diamonds in the field of view using the aimer LED's to position it. Trigger the reader again
and confirm that this code is not read. Change the maximum code length to "11" and trigger the
reader again. Are you able to read the code now?
Look at the properties for other symbologies to see what can be specified. For 1D codes length is a
common property. Some of the 1D codes also have checksums that can be either enabled or
disabled. Some of the more specialized 1D codes (DataBar, Pharmacode) have settings for more
specialized properties. The 2D codes (DataMatrix, QR) have more settings some of which relate to
process control metrics (tracking how well codes are formed over time).
You have seen that the reader can read more than one code in the field of view at one time. Let's
look at the Multicode tab to understand a bit more how it works. Place both the Ace of Diamonds
and the Two of Diamonds in the field of view. The cards may need to overlap so that both codes are
within the field of view. Trigger the reader to capture an image something like the one below (Fig
32). You may need to adjust the overlap and position so that both codes are visible. If you need
help, ask!
