Return to the Multicode tab of the Symbology Settings dialog. In the top section where you set the
total number of codes you wanted to read is a checkbox labeled Allow Partial Results (Fig. 37).
Check this checkbox and trigger the reader. Can you read both codes when both are in the field of
view? Can you cover up one code and still read the other? How about covering the other code and
reading the first one? Allowing partial results enables the reader to report the data from the
readable codes and ignore those that can not be read or are missing.
Fig. 37 - Allow Partial Results
At the bottom of the Symbology Settings dialog is list labeled Sorting Priority (see Fig. 33 on page
18). This allows you to sort the reporting order of multiple codes in the field of view. By default the
reported order is by symbology starting with DataMatrix, then QR Code etc. Other options are
sorting by position in the field of view (top to bottom and left to right) and image order. The last
selection is for use with trigger modes that capture multiple images as a code (or codes) are moving
through the field of view. Codes read in earlier images are then reported before codes in later
images.
You can select any of these options and move it higher or lower in the list by using the Up and Down
buttons on the right side. The higher you move an option in the list, the higher its priority. You can
also use the Reverse button to reverse the order of the option. As an example you can change
Position (Top to Bottom) to Position (Bottom to Top) by selecting the option and clicking the
Reverse button. Try changing the order of these and trigger reads to see how the reporting
order changes. You will see the order change in the top line of the results in the Result History
pane. Move the codes around in the field of view to see how the reporting order changes.
Conclusion:
You have learned about some advanced symbology settings and how to more accurately specify
which codes you want to read and which ones are not to be read. You have learned about reading
multiple codes within one field of view and how to allow successful reading of fewer than the total
number expected. You have also learned about sorting the order in which read codes are reported.
