Read Setups
Introduction:
Not all applications read the same code on the same part all the time. Sometimes parts change
color, or the symbology changes, or one code is much closer to the reader than another code.
These are things that can affect exposure time, gain setting, focus, which lights are enabled and
other properties of the reader setup. Changing the reader configuration between batches of parts is
not convenient and if the parts are presented to the reader in random order it is not feasible to
change the configuration. For this reason Cognex has included the ability to have property settings
for different conditions to be stored in the reader and be called up automatically as needed. These
are known as Read Setups. In this lab you will work with read setups to deal with codes at two
different distances.
Start:
So that whatever settings you have changed to this point do not affect what you want to accomplish
in this lab you need to reset the configuration to a default state. To do this click on the System menu
in the ribbon and then click on the Reset Configuration hotkey (Fig. 38). Confirm that you want to
reset the configuration when prompted. The reset will take a couple of seconds to complete.

When the reset is finished place the Ace of Hearts in the field of view using the aimer LED's for
positioning. From the Tune menu of the Quick Setup pane uncheck the box labeled Train Code
After Tuning (Fig. 39). Click the Tune button to tune the reader to this setup and then trigger
the reader. You should see an image similar to that at the bottom of page 15 (Fig. 28). Also from
the Tune menu verify that the Trigger Mode is set to Single (external) as you did in Lab 3.
