The rolling shutter is used to control the start and stop of sensor exposure. The rolling shutter used
in these cameras has two operating modes:
electronic rolling shutter mode (ERS mode) and
global reset release mode (GRR mode).
Electronic Rolling Shutter Mode (ERS)
When the shutter is in the electronic rolling shutter operating mode, it exposes and reads out the
pixel lines with a temporal offset from one line to the next. When frame start is triggered, the camera
resets line one of the ROI and begins exposing line one,
resets line two a short time later (= temporal offset) and begins exposing line two,
resets line three a short time later than line two (= additional temporal offset) and begins
exposing line three.
And so on until the bottom line of pixels is reached (see
