Determining Over-current protection

Digital outputs are protected from inadvertent over-current conditions. If a Digital Output
channel draws more current than it should, then the IOM posts a soft failure and sheds to
manual control. Supervisor intervention is required to return the channel to normal
operation. Over current conditions are typically the result of a shorted device or capable.
6.11 Defining DIGITAL INPUT PULSE ACCUMULATION
Channel Blocks

Overview

The DIGITAL INPUT PULSE ACCUMULATION channel block represents a single
digital input point or pulse accumulation point on the DIGITAL INPUT PULSE
ACCUMULATION module. This digital input channel converts a digital PVRAW signal
received from the field to PV data that can be used by other data points in the Experion
system. The Digital Input Pulse Accumulation channel accumulates the number of rising
edge of the input signal applied to the screws. Depending on the PNTTYPE
configuration in the channel block, each channel block exhibits either Digital Input
channel properties or DIGITAL INPUT PULSE ACCUMULATION channel properties.
The following is a functional diagram of the DIGITAL INPUT PULSE
ACCUMULATION channel.
