All substances (solids, liquids, or gases) with mobile charge
carriers like for example electrons or ions have a finite ohmic
resistance, which means they have an electric conductance
that can be measured or an electric conducitivtiy.
The salinity is a sum parameter especially for seawater;
it gives the salt content of seawater.
The temperature has a very strong impact on the electrical
conductivity. To be able to compare measured values, it is
necessary to temper or convert the test sample to a refer-
ence temperature.
The substance to be measured. It can be liquid or solid.
Mass that remains of the substances dissolved in an aque-
ous solution after a fixed filtering and drying procedure, as
far as these substances are not volatile under the conditions
of this procedure. The total dissolved solids refer to the vol-
ume of the filtered aqueous sample used und are given in
mg/l.
