198 Maintenance
Capacitors
The DC circuit of an inverter module contains several electrolytic capacitors. Their lifespan
depends on the operating time, loading and ambient temperature. Capacitor life can be
prolonged by lowering the ambient temperature.
Capacitor failure is usually followed by damage to the unit and an input fuse failure, or a
fault trip. Contact an ABB service representative for spare parts and repair services.
Reforming the capacitors
The DC circuit capacitors must be reformed if the inverter module has been stored for a
year or more. See section
the manufacturing date. For information on reforming the capacitors, see Converter
module capacitor reforming instructions (3BFE64059629 [English]).
Memory unit
After replacing an inverter control unit, the existing parameter settings can be retained by
transferring the memory unit from the defective unit to the new unit.
WARNING! Do not remove or insert the memory unit when the control unit is
powered.
To remove the memory unit, undo the fastening screw and pull the memory unit out.
