Checklist D Procedures
D-1
Check the Boom
Wear Pads
Maintaining the boom wear pads in good condition
is essential to safe machine operation. Wear pads
are placed on boom tube surfaces to provide a low
friction, replaceable wear pad between moving
parts. Improperly shimmed wear pads or continued
use of worn out wear pads may result in component
damage and unsafe operating conditions.
1 Start the engine from the ground controls.
2 Raise the end of the primary boom to a
comfortable working height (chest high), then
extend the boom 1 foot / 30 cm.
3 Measure each wear pad. Replace the wear pad if
9
it is less than
/
inch / 14.3 mm. If the wear
16
pad is not less than
as necessary to obtain zero clearance and zero
drag.
4 Extend and retract the primary boom through the
entire range of motion to check for tight spots
that may cause binding or scraping of the boom.
Always maintain squareness
between the outer and inner
boom tubes.

Check the Turntable Rotation
Bearing Bolts
Maintaining proper torque on the turntable bearing
bolts is essential to safe machine operation.
Improper bolt torque could result in an unsafe
operating condition and component damage.
1 Raise the secondary boom until the platform end
of the lower secondary boom arm is
8 feet (2.4 m) off the ground.
2 Turn the engine off.
3 Attach the lifting strap from an overhead crane
to the platform end of the lower secondary boom
arm for support. Do not lift.
4 Be sure that each turntable bearing bolt is
torqued in specified order to
210 ft-lbs / 285 Nm.
