3. Verify that the correct cable type is used for the network speed or that the correct SFP or DAC cable is
used.
For dual-port 10GB network devices, both SFP ports should have the same media (for example, DAC
cable or equivalent SFP+ module). Mixing different types of SFP (SR/LR) on a single device is not
supported.
4. Verify that the network cable is working by replacing it with a known functional cable.
5. Verify that a software issue did not cause the failure.

6. Verify that the controller is enabled in the Aptio Setup Utility.
7. Verify that the system ROM and controller drivers are current.

8. Verify that a valid IP address is assigned to the controller and that the configuration settings are correct.
9. Verify that the network controller is fully seated into the applicable (or supported) PCIe slot.
Network controller stopped working when an expansion board was added
Symptom
The network controller stopped working when an expansion board was added to the server.
Cause
The network controller is not seated or properly connected.
The OS or server does not support the network controller.
The server configuration changed when the expansion board was installed.
The network controller drivers have not been updated.
The driver parameters do not match the configuration of the network controller.
Action
1. Verify that no loose connections exist.

2. Verify that the server and operating system both support the controller.

3. Verify that the new expansion board has not changed the server configuration, requiring reinstallation of
the network driver.
a. Uninstall the network controller driver for the malfunctioning controller in the operating system.
b. Restart the server and run the appropriate option in the Aptio Setup Utility.
Verify that the server recognizes the controller and that resources are available for the controller.
c. Restart the server, and then reinstall the network driver.
4. Verify that the correct drivers are installed.

6. Verify that the PCIe slots are populated according to the population guidelines.
