The operator can change the role of a station to primary, backup, sysadmin,
out_of_service, and normal. Refer to
these roles and how to use them. This command is only selectable when all
the following conditions are true.
• The selected station is not undergoing a state transition.
• The role of the selected station is not out_of_service.
• The local station has an active primary in its database.
• There are no OSx stations in the system that are currently
synchronizing to the primary.
Or
The selected station is the primary.

Use the command to change the role of an OSx station. Note
Role_Change
that any station displaced by a role change automatically changes to the
normal role. For example, if you assign a station the backup role, any other
station that you designated previously as backup automatically changes to
the normal role.
If the system is busy when you try to switch the primary role from the
current primary to another station, you may receive the following message:
System is too busy for role change; try again later
has diminished before trying again.
A manual role change times out if the role change cannot occur within one
minute. During this period, you cannot access items from the menu bar, but
there is no other indication of the timeout. After one minute, a message
appears on the system message line reporting that the role change request
has timed out.
If a role change involving the primary occurs while you are editing a report
or compiling or installing a BCL program on one OSx station, then another
user may be able to edit the same report or compile or install the same BCL
program at the same time. Avoid role changes involving the primary while
editing reports or compiling or installing BCL programs.
