In order to acknowledge an alarm, the operator must have one of the
following security privileges: Database Administration, System
Configuration, Primary Control, Secondary Control, Tertiary Control, or
Operations.
The first step in the acknowledgment process is to stop the sound of the
audible alarm. To silence the alarm, the operator presses
the operator keyboard, or clicks on the silence icon
alarm remains silent until the next alarm occurs.
After silencing the alarm, the operator needs to check the list of active
alarms. This is described in the next section.

When some windows appear, they force all mouse and keyboard control to the
window until the operator makes a selection from the window.
This means that the operator cannot respond to alarms that occur while the
window is open, with the potential risk of death or serious injury to personnel,
and/or damage to equipment.
Make sure that the operator knows that he must make a selection from the
window before responding to an alarm.
