NOTE: For remaining steps, upper cover (A)
and lower cover (B) must move to established
position of column which has been determined
by flexible coupling and instrument panel at-
tachment.
Push upper (A) and lower
(B)
cover assembly to dash
and line up all cover to dash attaching holes.
CAUTION: Do not permit rolled section of seal
(D) to reverse itself:
Holding both upper and lower cover assemblies
against dash and column, install and tighten two
screws (M) to 40 lb. in. torque.
Tighten two screws (C) to 40 lb. in. torque.
Loosen two screws (M).
Tighten two screws (M) to 40 lb. in. torque.
Tighten two screws (J) to 40 lb. in. torque.
Install shift indicator (pointer) cable attaching screw
to shift bowl on models with automatic transmission.
13. Reconnect all electrical connections and install any
trim which has been removed.
14. Connect all transmission linkage, if linkage requires
adjusting, see Section 7 for the procedure.
15. Adjust back-up light or neutral-start switch (see Sec-
tion 12 for adjustment procedure).
MAJOR SERVICE
The following procedure? cover the complete disassembly
and assembly of steering columns after their removal from
car and should only be used to the extent necessary for
replacement of steering shaft, lower bearing, shift bowl
bearing, shift tube, column jacket or other internal parts
(Figs. 9-36 and 9-37).
NOTE: The removal and disassembly of upper
bearing housing can be performed with steering
column installed in car.
