Guidelines for planning the
electrical installation

Contents of this chapter

This chapter contains instructions for planning the electrical installation of the drive. Some
instructions are mandatory to follow in every installation, others provide useful information
that only concerns certain applications.

Limitation of liability

The installation must always be designed and made according to applicable local laws and
regulations. ABB does not assume any liability whatsoever for any installation which
breaches the local laws and/or other regulations. Furthermore, if the recommendations
given by ABB are not followed, the drive may experience problems that the warranty does
not cover.

Selecting the supply disconnecting device

The drive is equipped with a main disconnecting device. Depending on the size of the
drive, the disconnecting device is a switch-disconnector or an air circuit breaker. The
disconnecting device can be locked to the open position for installation and maintenance
work.

Selecting the main contactor

Some drive types can be equipped with a line contactor. See
Overview circuit diagram of
the drive
(page 31).
