External Notification
External Notification is a facility by which mailbox users may receive a notification of a
new message on their pager or on their mobile phone or home land phone. This facility
is available to an individual user only if the Administrator enables this facility in the
Global Mailbox Settings.
Pager Display String: Pager Display String is a string of characters, maximum 11
characters long and consists of digits 0 to 9 and *. The Synectix VMS Lite notifies the
mailbox owner about a new message by dialing his/her pager number and then dialing
the "Pager display string". This string appears on the pager's screen and the mailbox
owner can recognize this as a new message notification.
No. of Retries: This is the number of times the Synectix VMS Lite tries to call the
external notification number to deliver a notification when the attempt fails to deliver
because either the number was busy or the user was out of service area or if the user
did not answer the call. Valid values are 0 to 6. (If 0 is programmed, the unit will not
retry to send the notification).
Trunk Access Key: This is a single-digit or a two-digit number that must be dialed to
gain access to the external trunk line.
Answer Detection Time: This is the minimum duration for which the voice must be
present to decide that a call is answered. Valid values range from 1 to 29. These values
are multiplied by 33 mSec.
