ABOUT LOG-FILES

Managing Datalogging using CygLink
CygLink would normally be used to manage Datalogging in this way :
Preparation
Create new template-files on your PC using CygLink
see : Creating Template-Files Using CygLink, page 52
Quick-Logging : there is no need to create a template-file
Datalogging
Open a template-file to begin a new logging session
Or : reopen an existing log-file to continue a logging session
Or : open a Quick-Logging file for instant datalogging
Creating Reports
View the Log-Files using CygLink File Viewer – see : Viewing Log-Files, page 47
If you want CygLink to produce a text-based Report File :
use the Create Report option – see : Creating a Report File, page 48
Otherwise use a spreadsheet program to read the file and prepare your report
Files used at each stage of the Datalogging process
CygLink uses three different types of file during Datalogging : [see : File Format, page 51]
New Files [Templates]
CygLink creates templates, which are empty files used for datalogging
A template-file is opened at the start of a datalogging, and is then saved as a Gauge
Log-File at the end of the session
Templates can be used once, or many times over with a new name assigned each
time the file is saved after a datalogging session
Gauge Log-Files
Gauge Log-Files are the files saved, at the end of a datalogging session
These files can be viewed using the CygLink File Viewer
They can be converted into Report Files using the File Viewer
Or : otherwise the file can be read into a spreadsheet program
Report Files
CygLink can convert the Gauge Log-Files into simple text-based Report Files
Report Files can be printed directly from CygLink
New Template-Files, and Gauge Log-Files, can be printed from CygLink, but this option
is for reference only, and is not recommended for creating Reports
