TROUBLESHOOTING

If you notice any of the problems listed below, refer to the "Remedy" column for instructions on how to solve the prob-
lem.
* If this does not solve the problem, or if the problem you are experiencing is not listed below, contact your nearest
Brother dealer or a qualified technician to carry out the necessary adjustment.
Problem
The needle is
broken.
The thread comes
out of the needle
hole at the sewing
start.
The upper thread
breaks during
sewing.
Possible Cause
The needle is installed incorrectly.
The needle is bent, or the needle tip is
broken or blocked.
The thread thickness does not match the
needle size.
The needle is of the wrong type.
The needle is touching the needle plate.
The bobbin case is incorrectly installed to the
rotary hook.
The material is being overstretched during
sewing.
The thread take-up lever is not at its highest
position at the sewing start.
The thread end is too short for the needle
hole at the sewing start.
The thread has been threaded incorrectly.
The needle is bent, or the needle tip is
broken or blocked.
The needle is installed incorrectly.
The thread is caught on something in the
thread path.
The threads are rubbing together while
sewing.
¡The upper thread tension is too strong.
¡The upper thread tension is too weak.
¡The lower thread tension is too strong.
The needle hole is too small for the thread.
The needle is of the wrong type.
Install the needle correctly.
Replace the needle.
Use a needle that is suitable for the
thread.
Use the correct type of needle.
Re-seat the needle plate.
Install the bobbin case correctly.
Be careful not to pull the material too
much.
Set the thread take-up lever to the
highest position at the sewing start.
Approx. 50 mm of thread should be
coming out of the needle hole.
Thread the thread correctly.
Replace the needle.
Install the needle correctly.
¡Uncatch the thread.
¡If the thread is twisted too strongly,
replace the thread.
If the thread is twisted too strongly,
replace the thread.
Adjust the thread tension.
Use a needle that is suitable for the thread.
Use the correct type of needle.
