YOKOGAWA PT-500A

Steering functions are available when the ECDIS system is connected to the Autopilot.
To use a steering mode, set your Autopilot's system selection switch to the FU-1 po-
sition.
Hand (manual) steering mode (Steering mode setting: HAND)
Set the Steering Mode Selector switch to HAND. The ECDIS displays the rudder angle
and indicates the steering mode in the [Route Information] box.
Autopilot steering mode (Steering mode setting: AUTO)
The operator sets the required heading of the ship with the Course Setting dial or
Course Setting keys (, ). Turns are controlled by the rudder limit or rate of turn and
are started the operator.
Turn the Steering Mode Selector switch to the AUTO position, and the set course is
shown in the set course display window. The initial value of the set course is the ship's
heading at that time. To change the course, use the Course setting dial or the Course
Setting keys. The course deviation appears in the data display window and the indi-
cation "AUTO" is lit.
When the loading condition changes remarkably, yawing can be large at the depar-
ture. Then, do auto course; change by 20° of port and starboard two or three times,
and follow the state for approx. 15 minutes.
Turn controlled by the rudder angle: When a new course is set, turns are controlled
by the rudder angle. You can set the required rudder angle limit with the Rudder limit
control.
Turn controlled by rate of turn: Press the  switch on the Auto Steering unit several
times to light "R.O.T." in the data display window and show the rate of turn (unit deg/
min). Press the RATE RADIUS switch on the Auto Steering unit to show current
course change control mode. Push the ENTER key then operate the + or - key to
select the course change rate, by minutes (RATE-M), by degree (RATE-T, or by radius
(RADIUS).
To change the value, push the ENTER key followed by + or - key. This value be-
comes the turn of rate order during automatic course change. The setting, however,
cannot be changed during automatic course change.
Route steering mode (Steering mode setting: NAVI)
The route steering modes follows a predefined route. There are two types of route
steering modes: GoSEA and GoAW.
GoSEA mode (open sea mode): The planned track is followed at moderate and "eco-
nomical accuracy" between waypoints and also during the turns (position-controlled
turn). When the ship nears a waypoint, the ECDIS alerts the operator both well before
the turn and just before the turn.
GoAW mode (all waters mode): The planned track is followed at the "maximum ac-
curacy" between waypoints and also during the turns (position-controlled turn). When
the ship nears a waypoint, the ECDIS alerts the operator both well before the turn and
just before the turn.
To start the route steering mode, do the following:
