SHIMMING (FOR USA AND CANADA)
2. Set:
Shimming gauge 1
(onto the tapered roller bearing and
tapered roller bearing outer race as
shown)
Shimming gauge:
YB-06344
NOTE:
When using the shimming gauge, be sure
to place it at a right angle to the bearing.
Otherwise, the measurement will be
incorrect.
The shimming gauge was not designed or
manufactured large enough to easily
measure the bearing and shim when they
are assembled; therefore, the specified
measurement procedure cannot be used.
The shim sizes must be determined by
measuring the bearing without the shims.
Example:
If M is "0.21 mm" and "F" is "+5", then:
T1 = 1.0 + (+5)/100 mm + 0.21 mm
= 1.0 + 0.05 + 0.21 mm
= 1.26 mm (0.050 in)
If M is "0.25 mm" and "F" is "–3", then:
T1 = 1.0 + (–3)/100 mm + 0.25 mm
= 1.0 – 0.03 + 0.25 mm
= 1.22 mm (0.048 in)
3. Measure:
