Wheelbase Extension (fig. 34) (except Avantgarde XXL)
for a longer wheel distance, thus providing higher tilt-stability.
for transfemoral amputees use of the wheelbase extension is absolutely necessary.
The wheelbase extension should be mounted only with the additional bore hole pointing to the rear.
Spoke Protectors (fig. 35)
protect the fingers against getting into the running wheels. But simultaneously improve the optical aspect of the
wheelchair.
Quick Release Axle with Lock Release Assist (fig. 36)
facilitates removal of the rear wheels for tetraplegics and users with motoric disorders.
Unilateral Propulsion (fig. 37) (except Avantgarde XXL)
especially for hemiplegics, who optionally want to move on by additional "tripping" or by activating the push ring.
Lock Lever Extension – attachable (fig. 38)
facilitates use of the wheel lock.
Wheel Lock with Adaptable Operating Lever (fig. 39)
The operating lever can be directly adapted to the user by the therapist using an appropriate tool.
Wheel Lock – flip down (fig. 40)
can be flipped to the inner side in one step (e.g. during sports). In conjunction with transport wheels the overall
width of the wheelchair can be additionally reduced.
Dual Activating Wheel Lock for User and Attendant (fig. 28 – item b)
The wheelchair can also be locked by an attendant. The rear wheels remain removable via the quick release
system.
Wheel Lock for Unilateral Propulsion (fig. 41)
recommended especially for hemiplegics. It can be activated either at the right or left side and ensures safe
locking at both rear wheels by a pull wire system.
Make sure, that the flip-down lock lever extension is always attached when locking or unlocking takes place.
Drum Brake (Fig. 42)
allows comfortable and safe braking for the attendant. The rear wheels remain detachable by means of the quick
release system.

Adjustability / Assembly Instructions

Each wheelchair user would like the wheelchair to come up to his/her own ideas regarding type of wheelchair,
accessories, seating and handling.
Your Avantgarde wheelchair offers a number of possibilities, how to adapt your wheelchair to your requirements.
Be careful with your fingers when making adjustments or during mounting works (risk of injuries).
Adjusting the Wheel Lock
To change the position of the rear wheels, first loosen the attachment screws of the wheel lock and push the
wheel lock forward. After the rear wheels have been mounted in the new position, the wheel lock should be
re-mounted in a way that the distance between the tires and wheel lock bar is a maximum of 5 mm with the wheel
lock not being activated (subject to technical changes) (fig. 44). Check regularly for correct air pressure and the
effectiveness of the locking devices. The air pressure is indicated on the side wall of the tire. It should be 3.5 bar
(350 kPa) at a minimum.
Make sure that only original rear wheels with approved radial excursion with a maximum of ±1 mm are used, in
order to ensure satisfactory braking effect.
Be certain to snugly retighten all screws and nuts after making adjustments.
Adjusting the Rear Wheel in the Multi-Adjustable Axle Plate (fig. 45)
The further back the propulsion wheel is attached, the longer the wheelbase and greater the wheelchair stability
(refer to wheelbase extension on page 6).
By attaching the rear wheel in a more forward position (only for trained wheelchair users), the maneuverability of
the wheelchair increases and the caster wheels can be lifted more easily to clear obstacles such as kerbs or
steps.
Please note, when the rear wheels are in their more forward positions the user may tip backwards, even on
flat ground, in case the body has not been appropriately positioned.
