Application

The Avantgarde Wheelchair for active use is exclusively designed for people being unable to walk or having
a walking impediment. It can be individually moved either by the patient him/herself or by another person.
Warranty applies only if the product is used according to the specified conditions and intended
purposes.

Range of Application

This wheelchair in modular design offers versatile model and equipment options and allows use in the case of
walking impediments/ inability due to
• palsies
• loss of limbs (lower limb amputation)
• limb defects / deformations
• joint contractures / injuries
• diseases like cardiac / circulatory insufficiency, disorders of balance or cachexia
but also in the case of geriatric patients who still dispose of applicable residual strength in the upper limbs.
The Avantgarde wheelchair is specially designed for those being generally able to locomote independently by
means of a wheelchair.
To provide individual fitting the following items should be considered
• height and weight of the body (maximum load for the wheelchairs Avantgarde TR, V, SL
and D is 120 kg, for Avantgarde Teen 90 kg, for Avantgarde XXL 160 kg)
• physical and psychological constitutions
• age of the disabled person (adolescent, adult, Avantgarde Teen: children and teenagers)
• home conditions and
• surroundings

Otto Bock as manufacturer with sole responsibility declares that the Avantgarde wheelchair for active
use conforms to the requirements of 93/42/EEC Guideline.

Preface

The Avantgarde Wheelchair for active use offers quality and is a product allowing you versatile use in every-
day life.
Prior to initial use of your wheelchair, please read the sections "Delivery / Preparing the Wheelchair for
Use" (page 2f) and "Safety Tips" (page 3 ff).
The section "Accessory Parts" (page 5 ff) presents additional parts for the Avantgarde, which may extend the
range of application and increase comfort.
The section "Adjustability / Assembly Instructions" (page 7 ff) describes the possibilities of adjusting the
wheelchair to your individual requirements.
The design as described in these Instructions for Use is subject to technical alterations.

Delivery / Preparing the Wheelchair for Use

Your wheelchair is usually delivered completely assembled.
Three simple steps are necessary to prepare it for use:
When folding or unfolding your wheelchair grasp it only at the indicated positions (danger of injury).
Loosen the strap to hold the folded wheelchair in position.
Position yourself on the side of the wheelchair, tip it slightly toward you and press on the edge of the seat
closest to you. The wheelchair will unfold up to its seat width (fig. 1).
Now you need only fold down the footplate/s (fig. 2).
Be certain that the pin on the footplate is correctly locked into the catch connected to the fork part.
