In accordance with IMO MSC Circular 862, the apparatus equipped on or after 1
1999, the procedure of distress-call activation is modified to prevent false call.
In emergency, press and hold "DISTRESS" button until beeping sound changes from
intermittent to continuous. ( approximately 3 to 4 seconds )
In accordance with IMO MSC68 resolution, the apparatus equipped on or after 1
2000 is modified to output alarm when no position and UTC data is received from
navigation equipments, such as GPS, or no position and UTC data is entered by manual
operation for 4 hours or more.
When the following alarms are outputted, check the function of the navigation equipment,
and check the connection between the navigation equipment and VHF radiotelephone.
Or input correct position and UTC data manually .
Regarding detailed operation, refer to following instructions.
For the prevention of unnecessary distress relay transmission, the apparatus equipped
on or after January 1
message which passed 48 hours or more.
Even if you intend to read received distress-message in accordance with clause 4.1.15 of
instruction manual, the old message which passed 48 hours or more is not shown and
audible alarm is outputted. They are not the abnormalities of apparatus.
Moreover, even if you intend to read message which has not received, no message is
shown and audible alarm is outputted.
When power source is left off more than a week, the power source for internal clock
discharges up to empty then the clock will be stopped.
In the usual display as indicated below, the date, UTC, latitude and longitude data from
nav aid such as GPS is displayed instead of internal clock.
In spite of correct date and time is shown in the usual display, the internal clock may differ
with correct value.
Set date and time again in accordance with clause 4.3.18 of instruction manual, when
turned the power on.
Time data of internal clock is used for 48 hours counting instead of GPS clock which may
be interrupted.
