EQUIPMENT OVERVIEW

The VHF radio communication system consists of the main unit plus peripheral equipment
which enhances system performance. This chapter describes system configuration and
features.
1.1

Functions

The JHS-32B includes the VHF radiotelephone and DSC watchkeeping receiver required by
the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). It is designed to be compact and
lightweight for easy installation in any ship of 100 gross tons or more, as well as in conven-
tional ships (all passenger and cargo ships of over 300 gross tons engaged in international
navigation). The JHS-32B is equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) functions for
distress calls and routine calls, as well as usual voice communication function. It incorporates
all the necessary units for DSC service, such as the DSC unit, CH70 watchkeeping receiver
and power supply.
The system configuration, with peripheral equipment, is shown below.
