Traffic Control

From the Traffic Control menu, you can configure MAC filters, storm control, port security,
and protected port settings.
The Traffic Control folder contains links to features described in the following sections:

Storm Control
A broadcast storm is the result of an excessive number of broadcast messages
simultaneously transmitted across a network by a single port. Forwarded message
responses can overload network resources and cause the network to time out.
The switch measures separately the incoming packet rate for broadcast, multicast, and
unknown unicast packets per port and discards packets when the rate exceeds the defined
value. You enable storm control per interface by enabling storm control per packet type and
defining the rate at which the packets are transmitted.
Storm control is configured as a percent of the maximum port speed, which is 10Gbps for all
ports.
To configure storm control settings:

1. Select Security > Traffic Control > Storm Control.
2. Select the check box next to the port to configure.
Select multiple check boxes to apply the same setting to all selected ports. Select the
check box in the heading row to apply the same settings to all ports.
Storm control can be enabled and a threshold can be defined separately for the following
packet types:
• Unknown Unicast. If the rate of unknown L2 unicast (destination lookup failure),
traffic ingressing on an interface increases beyond the configured threshold, the traffic
is dropped.
• Multicast. If the rate of L2 multicast traffic ingressing on an interface increases
beyond the configured threshold, the traffic is dropped.
