Connecting Video Components

Connect the cables to be used. Carefully check the left (L) and right (R) channels and the inputs and outputs, and
be sure to interconnect correctly.

Connecting a BD/BDR

• For playback, select one of the video connectors (HDMI IN, COMPONENT IN, or VIDEO IN) and one of the
audio connectors (HDMI IN, OPT. IN, COMPONENT IN, or AUDIO IN), and connect the cables.
• For recording, select the VIDEO OUT and one of the audio connectors (OPT. OUT or AUDIO OUT), and connect
the cables.
• If you connect the COMPONENT VIDEO INs to your video components, it is easier to do so by following
the default settings: COMPONENT IN 1 : BD/BDR, COMPONENT IN 2 : DVD/DVR. If your component video
connections are different from the default setting, you should assign the COMPONENT VIDEO INs you used
with the "Setting the Input Setup" on page 60.
• There are two types of video jacks (COMPONENT, (composite) VIDEO) for analog video connections and the
HDMI connectors for digital video and audio connections. Connect them to the corresponding video jacks
according to their capability. For details on HDMI connection, see page 17.

For your reference, the excellence in picture quality is as follows: "HDMI" > "COMPONENT" > "(composite) VIDEO".
•
When making COMPONENT VIDEO connections, connect "Y" to "Y", "PB/CB" to "CB"(or "B-Y", "PB") and
"PR/CR" to "CR"(or "R-Y", "PR").
•
When recording video program sources through VIDEO OUT 1 (BD/BDR) jack or viewing ROOM 2 source
through ROOM 2 OUT jack, you must use the same type of video jacks that you did connect to video playback
components such as BD player, etc.
• For connecting MONITOR (TV, projector, etc.), see "Connecting a monitor" on page 17.
• The jack of VIDEO 1 (BD/BDR) may also be connected to other video (recording) components. For details, refer
to the operating instructions of the component to be connected.
