Press F5 CHORD or F6 VOCODER and F7 UNISON to select different genius function modes
F5 CHORD
Use this mode when you play with styles, in or-
der to have the harmony voices ac com pa ny the
chord changes. The harmony voic es depend on
which notes you were actually singing.
F5 VOCODER
In the Vocoder mode the harmony voices sing
exactly the notes that are being played, regard-
less of which notes you are singing. This mode is
extremely useful for a number of purposes:
1.
Create vintage "vocoder effects"
2.
Command the harmony group to
sing specific harmony voicings.
3.
Allowing the harmony voicings to be
controlled by a track of a midifile.
NOTE
In Vocoder mode, the harmony voices do not rec-
ognize the keyboard split.
1
Some midifiles or Gem song formats can contain a midi track (usually track #5), which instructs the harmony voices when
and how they should sing. The Genesys Xp re ceives these instructions in Vocoder Mode.
Playing a midifile which contains a harmony track with the SONG PLAYER section, you need to configure the Vocal Genius
manually only once. After you have set the Vocal Genius to follow the harmony track in the song file, you can lock the settings
and they will always operate that way. Proceed as follows:
1.
Select VOCODER mode.
2.
Check that all four voices are not muted and that their volume levels are up.
3.
Press the F3 button, (EDIT) and set the Vocoder Track to 5.

Technically, unison is not a harmony mode, but
a special setting used to enrich the sound of
your voice, to produce a thicker, warmer tone.
Unison mode works by making four "copies" of
your voice and having them sing along with you.
Since Unison mode does not actually produce
any harmony notes, (notes which are completely
different in pitch to the original), it ignores any
notes that you are playing on the keyboard since
these are not necessary for the creation of the
unison effect. Select the Unison mode listen-
ing to the effect as soon as you start singing.
The Voices1, 2, 3 and 4 represent "copies" of
your voice. However, each copy slightly differs
from the others as they are detuned by a small
amount. You can modify the unison effect using
the volume controls for each voice; mix them
together in different proportions or use just one
or two of them.
UNISON VOICES TUNE SETTING
The tuning differences are expressed in "cents" where each
cent is equal to 1/100
