NAVIGATION
DATA INPUT
This channel, independent from all other settings defined under the MIDI menu, defines the way to control the Genesys xp by an external MIDI controller.
For example, if you set up a style to play in ACCOMP . SPLIT mode and then try to play the Genesys xp from an external controller keyboard connected to
either of the MIDI IN ports, you would normally only be able to play one of the constituent parts of the overall setting depending on the midi channel that
the controller keyboard is sending on. If, instead, you set the controller keyboard to the same setting as the COMMON CHANNEL on the Genesys, it
would allow the external controller keyboard to respond exactly as though you were playing the internal keyboard of the Genesys. It also allows an external
keyboard to play the styles of the Genesys. For example, if you wanted another instrument, like a digital piano, to play the Genesys styles in the left hand
section of its keyboard, simply create a split keyboard setting on the instrument where the left hand region is set to the same channel as the Genesys.
Program change messages received on the COMMON CHANNEL will select the MEMORIES instead of individual sounds. The COMMON CHANNEL
should also be used when you want the entire instrument to transmit on one channel only. The screen options here allow you to select which midi port and
channel to use for the COMMON CHANNEL. Chord Ch. 1 and 2 These are two independent midi channels which allow an external instrument to
independently control the bass and chord voicing of the style accompaniment. These are primarily designed for use with MIDI accordions or home organs
where the bass and chord notes can be played independently. If you wish to control the style accompaniment from the left hand region of another arranger
keyboard or digital piano, use the COMMON CHANNEL and not this function. Chord Ch. 1 should be set to the same channel as the chord buttons or
lower manual while Chord Ch 2. should be set to the same channel as the bass buttons or bass pedals.
