Configuring a Workstation for LPD Printing

Setting Up LPD under UNIX/Linux
To set up LPD, root authentication is required. The following procedure
shows a generic configuration of LPD. For more details, see the manual
for LPD configuration on your operating system.
1. Create a spool directory.
2. Specify daemon as a directory owner.
3. Edit
/etc/printcap
correctly.
PRINTERNAME:\
:lf=/usr/adm/ERROR-
LOG:\
:rm=PSNAME:\
:rp=PASS:\
:sd=/usr/spool/SPOOL-
DIRECTORY::
4. Start LPD:
#lpd
5. Test the printer:
#lpr -P PRINTERNAME file
