Parallel Menu settings allow you to specify connections for bidirectional
communication, page description language, and input/output timeouts.
The Bidirection submenu specifies whether or not the printer performs
bidirectional communication on the interface. The default ON setting is
recommended.
Option Description
ON (default) Enables bidirectional communication. As a result,
communication is enabled when the operation mode
of the PC parallel port is set to ECP, Nibble, or
Compatible.
OFF Disables bidirectional communication. As a result,
communication is enabled only when the operation
mode of the PC parallel port is set to Compatible.
If printing does not occur when the PC parallel port is set in ECP mode,
try one of the following:
• Use a 6-foot (2 meter) or shorter printer cable.
• Change the PC parallel port setting to Bidirectional or Standard.
• Update the PC BIOS.
For more information on bidirectional communication and the ECP
mode, refer to your PC operation manual.
