Print Quality Problems

This section describes likely causes of and possible solutions for problems with
print quality.

Checking the Condition of the Machine

If there is a problem with the quality of printing, first check the condition of the
machine.
Possible Cause
There is a problem with the ma-
chine's location.
Unsupported types of paper is
used.
The paper type setting is incor-
rect.
A non-genuine print cartridge is
being used.
An old print cartridge is being
used.
The machine is dirty.
Humidity level surrounding the
machine may be too low.
Solution
Make sure that the machine is on a level surface. Place the
machine where it will not be subject to vibration or shock.
Make sure that the paper being used is supported by the ma-
chine. See p.56 "Supported Paper for Each Tray".
Make sure that the paper type setting of the printer driver
matches the type of paper loaded. See p.81 "Specifying Pa-
per Type and Paper Size".
Refilled or non-genuine print cartridges reduce print quality
and can cause malfunctions. Use genuine print cartridges
only. See p.321 "Consumables".
Print cartridges should be opened before their expiration
date and used within six months of being opened.
See p.313 "Cleaning", and clean the machine as required.
Using the machine in a room where humidity level is too
low may cause black lines of a few millimeters thick appear-
ing on printouts with 75-millimeter spaces in between. Se-
lecting [On] for [Low Humidity Mode] under [Machine Settings]
may help to prevent these lines from appearing. See p.218
"Machine Settings".
