Chapter 5
Cisco CMTS Debugging Commands
Debug Output to the Console Can Be Incomplete
Cable interface line cards that have their own onboard processor, such as the Cisco uBR-MC5X20S and
Cisco uBR-MC28U/X cards, initially collect the debug messages and then pass them on to the processor
card using interprocess communications (IPC) messages. Because a large volume of debug messages
could interfere with normal operations, especially when messages are sent to the console, debug
messages are subject to rate-limiting that could drop part of abnormally large messages.
To avoid missing parts of the debug output, enabling logging to a buffer, using the logging commands.
Then use the show logging slot command to display the results for the specific cable interface line card.
If you do not need or desire timestamps on the debug messages, you can reduce the volume of output by
turning off timestamps for debug messages using the no service timestamps debug datetime msec
command.
