Application management using the local interface
Figure 15. Temporary disabling the anti-virus protection
Disabling the real-time protection mode considerably increases the risk
of a virus infection of your computer. However, when performing
certain operations (for example, defragmenting a disk with FAT32 file
system), you can disable real-time protection in order to save time.
If necessary, you can also disable some of the components of the
application rather than the entire protection system: file system
protection (see section 5.2.1 on page 53), mail protection (see section
on page 58), macros monitoring (see section 5.2.4 on page 64),
scripts monitoring (see section 5.2.5 on page 66) or protection against
network attacks (see section 5.2.6 on page 67).
In order to view or modify the real-time protection mode settings:
follow the
Settings tab (see Figure 3).
The real-time protection window contains several tabs based on the specific
protection functions. Provided below is a detailed description of each function.

5.2.1. File system scan

If the file protection feature is installed and enabled, when operating in the real-
time protection mode, Kaspersky Anti-Virus analyses all calls to the computer's
file system for the presence of malicious code.
Real-time file protection system is configured on the Files tab of the Real-time
protection settings (see Figure 16). In this window you can:
