A-5 Example of Allocating Variables to
the I/O Ports
Use Configurations and Setup – I/O Map on the Sysmac Studio to allocate variables to the I/O ports
of the IO-Link Master Unit.
The following example uses port 1 (Photoelectric Sensor) and port 2 (Proximity Sensor) of an IO-Link
Master Unit.
Additional Information
You can use the IO-Link Master Simple Settings function to set the IO-Link Master Unit and
generate I/O ports in the I/O Map according to the process data structure of the IO-Link device.
For these I/O ports, the variables that are generated in the Create Device Variable facilitate
programming because they have data types and variable names set according to the process
data structure of the IO-Link device.

Checking the Status of the IO-Link Master Unit
In this example, checking is performed for the following errors.
• Device Configuration Verification Error
• IO-Link Communications Error
• Pin1 Short-circuit Error
• Error-level Device Event
