Features
Congratulations on your purchase of the Sony IPS-760 GPS
(Global Positioning System) Receiver. The IPS-760 uses
GPS signals to provide you with essential navigation
information, such as latitude, longitude, and velocity.
You can use the IPS-760 to help you navigate in a variety of
locations and activities including:
* At sea: Boating, fishing, sailing
¢ On land: Hiking, mountaineering, driving
«In the air: Flying, hang-gliding
You can use the IPS-760 to:
*% Determine your current position
— display your current position.
— store your current position.
« Navigate to your destination
— store the latitude and longitude data of the positions.
— display the distance and the direction to your destination.
— plan your navigation route, for navigating to your
destination via the route.
— notify you of course deviation.
— notify you of reaching a destination point.
* Display and track the course travelled.
The IPS-760 is also versatile, allowing you to set it up and
use it in a variety of ways. You can:
¢ Remove the antenna from the display/keyboard unit for
remote installation.
¢ Light the display screen, buttons, and keys so you can use
the unit even in dark places.
¢ Use IC memory cards in the two available card slots. You
can use these cards to store navigation information and
display maps using IC memory cards that contain map
data.
* Output data via RS-232C and to the marin plotter using the
Interface Module (not supplied).
Note:
For nautical and aeronautical navigation, use this unit only as a
backup and supplement to the navigation charts required by the
relevant regulatory body
Using this manual you will be able to setup and operate IPS-
760 — even if you are unfamiliar with GPS or navigation
concepts.
This manual is divided into the following chapters:
¢ Chapter 1, "Setting Up the Unit," describes how to set up
the unit. It guides you through the setup and initial settings
you must make before you can start using the unit.
* Chapter 2, "Getting Started With the Unit," describes how to
use the unit. It also presents an overview of the operation
modes and explains how to use the display and operation
keys.
Introduction
¢ Chapter 3, "Customizing the Unit," describes how to
change the unit's default settings to suit your individual
needs. You can change the display, positioning conditions,
clock, alarms, and system settings.
¢ Appendixes provide miscellaneous information about the
unit, such as optional accessories, troubleshooting tips,
reference charts, display symbols and abbreviations, and
specifications.
