Tyre pressure monitoring system
Function of the tyre pressure monitoring system
The system checks the tyre pressure and the tyre
temperature of the tyres fitted to the vehicle by
means of a tyre pressure sensor.
The tyre pressure and the tyre temperature
appear in the driver's display.
If there is a substantial pressure loss or if the tyre
temperature is excessive, you will be warned with
display messages (
page 440) or the h
/
warning lamp in the driver's display
(
page 460).

The tyre pressure monitoring system is only an
aid. It is the driver's responsibility to set the tyre
pressure to the recommended cold tyre pressure
suitable for the operating situation.
In most cases, the tyre pressure monitoring sys-
tem will automatically update the new reference
values after you have changed the tyre pressure.
You can, however, also update the reference val-
ues by restarting the tyre pressure monitoring
system manually (
page 364).

System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
particularly in the following situations:
incorrect reference values were taught in
R
sudden pressure loss caused by a foreign
R
object penetrating the tyre, for example
there is a malfunction caused by another radio
R
signal source
Checking the tyre pressure with the tyre pressure
monitoring system
Requirements:
The vehicle is switched on.

Tyre pressures will be displayed after a few

minutes of
driving: current values are not yet
known to the system. The pressure/tempera-
ture values of each tyre are displayed as soon
as they are known to the system.
Tyre pressure monitor
active: the teach-in

process of the system is not yet complete. The
tyre pressures are already being monitored.
Compare the current tyre pressure with the

recommended tyre pressure for the current
operating condition (
page 362). Addition-
/
ally, observe the notes on cold tyres
(
page 361).
