Check the Free-wheel
Configuration
Genie specifications require that
this procedure be performed every
1000 hours or annually, whichever
comes first.
Proper use of the free-wheel configuration is
essential to safe machine operation. The
free-wheel configuration is used primarily for towing.
A machine configured to free-wheel without operator
knowledge may cause death or serious injury and
property damage.
Collision hazard. Select a work site
that is firm and level.
Component damage hazard. If the
machine must be towed, do not
exceed 2 mph / 3.2 km/h.
1 Chock both of the wheels at the circle-end of the
machine to prevent the machine from rolling.
2 Place a lifting jack of ample capacity
(35,000 lbs / 16000 kg) under each of the steer
yokes at the square-end of the machine.
3 Lift the wheels off the ground and place blocks
under the drive chassis for support.
4 Disengage the drive hubs by turning over the
drive hub disconnect caps on each wheel hub at
the square-end of the machine.

5 Manually rotate each wheel at the square-end of
the machine.
Result: Each wheel at the square-end of the
machine should rotate with minimum effort.
6 Re-engage the drive hubs by turning over
the drive hub disconnect caps. Rotate each
wheel to check for engagement. Lift the
machine and remove the blocks. Lower the
machine.
Collision hazard. Failure to
re-engage the drive hubs could
result in death or serious injury and
property damage.
7 Chock both of the wheels at the square-end of
the machine to prevent the machine from rolling.
8 Place a lifting jack of ample capacity
(35,000 lbs / 16000 kg) under each of the steer
yokes at the circle-end of the machine.
9 Lift the wheels off the ground and place blocks
under the drive chassis for support.
10 Disengage the drive hubs by turning over the
drive hub disconnect caps on each wheel hub at
the circle-end of the machine.
11 Manually rotate each wheel at the circle-end of
the machine.
Result: Each wheel at the circle-end of the
machine should rotate with minimum effort.
