FortiGuard-Web Filtering licensing
Every FortiGate unit comes with a free 30-day FortiGuard-Web Filtering trial license.
FortiGuard-Web Filtering license management is done by Fortinet servers, so there is
no need to enter a license number. The FortiGate unit automatically contacts a
FortiGuard-Web Filtering Service Point when you enable FortiGuard-Web Filtering
category blocking.
When you want to renew your FortiGuard-Web Filtering license after the free trial,
contact Fortinet Technical Support.
FortiGuard-Web Filtering configuration
Once selected, FortiGuard-Web Filtering category blocking is enabled globally. After
enabling FortiGuard-Web Filtering you can configure different categories for each
firewall protection profile.

configure FortiGuard-Web Filtering category blocking in a protection profile.
If you have ordered FortiGuard-Web Filtering through Fortinet technical support or are
using the free 30-day trial, you only need to enable the service to start configuring and
using FortiGuard-Web Filtering.

You can configure the following options to enable and help maintain FortiGuard-Web
Filtering:
Enable Service
Select to enable FortiGuard-Web Filtering.
FortiGuard-Web
Status: Select Check Status to test the connection to the FortiGuard-Web
Filtering server. Status should change from a flashing red/yellow indicator to

a solid green indicator when the server is contacted successfully.
License Type: The FortiGuard-Web Filtering license type.
Expiration: The date the FortiGuard-Web Filtering license expires.
Enable Cache
Select to enable caching of category ratings for accessed URLs. This
means that the FortiGate unit does not have to contact the server each time
a commonly requested URL is accessed. The cache is configured to use 6%
of the of the FortiGate RAM. When the cache is full, the least recently
accessed URL is deleted.
The cache is enabled by default.
