When certain problems develop in the electronic control system, the
ECU keeps in its memory an error code for each failure. This red lights
malfunction indicator on the board (next to high beam indicator). This
alerts the driver that there is a problem and that a repair or service is
required.
If one sensor fails or branch, the ECU can replace a failed sensor
value. This allows the engine to operate in an apparently normal
manner. A flaw that turns the malfunction indicator can also put the
engine in its limited way. This means that the chip limited operation
strategy (LOS) ECU has begun operations. This provides basic
instructions to the microprocessor if part of the electronic systemfails.
Motor runs but with an ignition timing and air-fuel ratio fixed. The
injector pulse does not change. This allows the vehicle to be driven but
with a very lowyield. The benefit of this is that the vehicle can be
brought to the service instead of being towed or transported by crane.
The technician can retrieve the code of the problem from the memory
of the ECU using the diagnostic tool. To use the code, the technician
can refer to the Table of diagnosis or flash code. This chart explains
where the problem lies and what is the likely cause.
