Engine Control Unit (ECU)
Function
Collects information from various sensors and ensures that the correct amount of fuel to be injected into the intake
manifold at the precise moment considering multiple load conditions and speed. It is the brain of the engine and controls
various devices. Also controls / suport a the vehicle diagnostic instrument for determining system problems fuel injection.
Building
It consists of a micro computer AD converter (Analog to Digital) and an IO unit (Input - Output)

Introduction
The automotive engine has two sets of power generation known as the "
carburetionsystem" and "Ignition System". Carburetor delivers an atomised /
vaporised mixture of air and fuel to the engine, maintaining the air fuel ratio
according to engine requirements.
The ignition system provides electrical spark to spark plug according to
demand precise engine (ignition timing) to burn fuel compressed air into the
combustion chamber
mixture.
However, these two systems are treated separately. In digital circuits on a
microprocessor used
CDI. This microprocessor is able to control various tasks. Hence, it is logical
that this ability is used to control the fuel system.
And then a digital electronic control is developed for fuel injection and
combined with digital ignition control into a single control unit. This unit is
called Electronic Control Unit.
