Fuel supply system, petrol engines - Edition 05.2019
– Connect pressure tester - VAS 6550- with adapter - VAS
6550/1- and adapter - VAS 6550/2- between fuel supply line
and fuel delivery unit.
♦ VAS 6550/1 between fuel line and shut-off tap -B-
♦ VAS 6550/2 between fuel delivery unit and shut-off tap -A-
CAUTION
Risk of fire due to escaping fuel.
Risk of severe injuries and burns.
– Before testing, check all connected lines for secure fit by
pulling.
– Take any fuel-soaked cloths away from area of vehicle.
– Ensure that drain tap -C- is closed and shut-off taps -A- and
-B- on pressure tester - VAS 6550- -1- are open.
– Actuate fuel pump with final control diagnosis to build up fuel
pressure.
– After pressure has built up, close shut-off tap -B- of pressure
tester immediately. Lever is then at right angle to direction of
flow.
– Repeat holding pressure check.
If pressure no longer drops:
– Check fuel line between engine and fuel tank for leaks.
If the pressure drops again:
– Open fuel delivery unit flange -1-

– Check that all hose connections -arrows- are connected.
If no fault is found:
Pressure limiting valve in fuel delivery unit flange or pressure re‐
tention valve in fuel pump is leaking.
– First renew flange with fuel filter and repeat pressure retention
test.

Vehicles with four-wheel drive
Leaks still present:
– Renew fuel delivery unit
