Fuel supply system, petrol engines - Edition 05.2019
– Release and pull off connector -arrow- at metering pump -
V54- .
Continued for all vehicles
– Lower rear axle ⇒ Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 42 ;
Rear axle; Lowering rear axle .
Note
When lowering, ensure sufficient clearance to brake lines and
electrical wiring.
– Unscrew bolts of tensioning straps -arrows-.
– Secure fuel tank to prevent it falling down.
– Remove tensioning straps.
– With the help of a 2nd mechanic, lower the fuel tank slowly.
– With the aid of a 2nd mechanic, guide the filler neck out be‐
tween rear axle and body.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Please observe the following:
– With the aid of a 2nd mechanic, guide the filler neck in between
rear axle and body.
– Slowly raise fuel tank into installation position and secure it.
– Guide filler neck in between rear axle and body.
– If metering pump - V54- is fitted, ensure that it is securely fas‐
tened to bracket.
– Ensure that the filler neck of the fuel tank is correctly inserted
into the opening in the body.
– Install breather lines and fuel lines free of kinks.
– After installing fuel tank, check that the supply, return and
breather lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
– Position the fuel tank together with securing strap on under‐
body, using the engine and gearbox jack - V.A.G 1383 A- .
– Ensure that bracket for exhaust system is seated correctly ⇒
Rep. gr. 26 ; Exhaust pipes/silencers; Assembly overview -
silencers .
– Use suitable workshop equipment to prevent the securing
straps from turning while tightening the bolts.
– Ensure that line connections are tight.
– Ensure connections are secured properly by pulling.
