If specification is not obtained
– Open tank flap unit.
– Clean area around fuel filler neck.
– Unscrew cap from fuel filler neck -arrow-.
– Repeat fuel delivery rate check.
If reading matches specification:
– Check fuel tank breather

If specification is not obtained
– Check fuel lines for possible restrictions (kinks) or blockages.
– Check fuel lines for leaks and damage.
If no fault is found:
Proceed as follows to check fuel delivery rate at fuel delivery unit:

Test conditions:

Voltage supply OK

Fuel pressure OK

Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V. If necessary, charge

Fuse for fuel pump control unit - J538- OK ⇒ Current flow di‐
agrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
•
Fuel pump control unit - J538- OK ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
•
Fuel pump relay - J17- OK ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester
•
Fuel pump fuse OK ⇒ Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault
finding and Fitting locations
•
Check that connector is fitted securely by pulling connector
without pressing catch. If connector was not inserted correctly,
repeat functional check of fuel pump.
•
Filling level in fuel tank above reserve.
Test sequence
– Remove bench seat ⇒ General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.
72 ; Rear seats; Removing and installing bench seat/individual
seats .
– Guide carpet out and fold upwards, if fitted.
