REMINDER
Always install the leaf spring with the concave
side facing the paper guide cover. (See Figure
4-16.)

4.2.5.3 Printhead Removal

CAUTION
The two printheads look the same but are
different. When replacing both printheads, keep
them separate. It is possible to use the right
printhead as the left printhead, but the left
printhead cannot be used as the right printhead.
If they are swapped, print quality will deteriorate.

1. Remove the upper housing. (See section 4.2.1.)
2. Remove the front housing. (See section 4.2.2.)
3. Remove the printer mechanism. (See section 4.2.3.)
4. Disengage the carriage lock by rotating gear (80) (the largest gear on
the left side of the printer mechanism) clockwise. (See Figure 4-17.)

CAUTION
Gear (80) is a high precision gear; touching the
gear with your bare hands may cause paper
feeding problems and result in poor print
quality.
5. Slide the carriage to the middle of the printer.
6. Press the cable clamp forward, then release the left and right printhead
cables from the plastic hooks on the carriage. Pull the cables away
from the front of the carriage.
