14. Select Print out Bi-d pattern and press Enter. Print test patterns for
each dot type that you want to adjust. Continue to adjust the
bidirectional values until you obtain test patterns in which odd and even
vertical lines align exactly.
15. When you are finished, press the ESC key 4 times to write the new
adjustment values to EEPROM.
Note: When the service program finishes, the Power OFF command is
output, and the printer is turned off. Pressing the ESC key 4 times
ensures that the corrected adjustment values are written to EEPROM
before the printer is turned off.

UPLOADING THE FIRMWARE

You need to upload firmware whenever you replace the C228 Main Board,
since firmware has not been input to flash memory in the replacement
board. The printer will not operate until this procedure is performed.
1. Connect the printer to the PC, then turn on the PC. Do not turn on the
printer yet.
2. Press the Operate, Reset, Cleaning, and Eject buttons on the control
panel to turn on the printer.
Note: When you've entered upload mode correctly, the red LED light
for manual feed turns on. If this light doesn't turn on, repeat step 2.

3. At the DOS prompt, type the following (if you've inserted the service
program diskette in a drive other than A, substitute that letter):
A:\COPY IPL2.HEX LPT1
If you enter this command correctly, the black ink out light begins to
blink. When IPL2.HEX finishes copying, the cyan ink out light blinks.
Copying takes about 3 seconds.
